Cultural Self-Awareness (7 out of 10 the Likert Scale)

My level of cultural self-awareness is at seven on the Likert scale, meaning it is relatively high. This is because I fully understand my cultural identity, biases, and rules. Moreover, I am not only in a position to articulate my cultural identity but also I have gradually progressed towards a point where I am more comfortable with the cultural perspectives of others.  According to Risager (2007), self-awareness is primarily determined by the knowledge one has regarding social interactions and familiarizing oneself with the practices of other cultures as well. This, in essence, helps to eliminate biases, prejudices, and other discriminatory contexts when dealing with people from diverse backgrounds.

On the other hand, my knowledge capacity is at a score of five. I choose this rating because I consider myself an average performer in terms of knowledge about cultural diversity.I have not yet been able to strike a balance between the sociopolitical influences and the controversial factor of race, culture, and ethnicity. I have often found it rather challenging to grasp all these concepts while simultaneously sieving what is relevant to avoid being quixotic.  There is so much information that informs the actions of clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, and this makes learning about different cultures a daunting task for me. Hammer, Bennet, and Wiseman (2003) advance the view one should pursue conceptual clarity in order to remain knowledgeable and to excel along the line of intercultural competence.

Skills (9 out of 10)

Finally, my skills are at a whoppingscore of nine on the Likertscale. This is primarily because, over the years, I have managed to gain adequate training and exposure while working with people from different cultural heritages. I am now able to improve on my effectiveness levels while at work because I have an understanding of how to interpret and relate the experiences of one culture to my own. Besides,I have acquired critical skills that enable me to understand a plethora of issues such as attitudes, beliefs, limitations, social identities among others.
