Human trafficking is one of the criminal offenses that deny humans their basic rights. It can also be equated to modern-day slavery. This is because the process of human trafficking and that of ancient slavery are similar when compared. Human trafficking involves abduction or kidnaps, either forcefully or deceitfully, of a person from one place to another. It can be defined as the acquisition of humans, men, women, and children either forcefully or deceitfully for forced labor, sexual exploitation, and servitude for the benefit of the trafficker. In most cases, the refugees and those who have been displaced forcibly are at high risk of being victims of this act. Mostly, those who have been captured end up being domestic servants or maids. Human trafficking is a problem that is being faced by a great number of countries around the globe. International Labor Organization (ILO) records a population of more than 25 million individuals who have become victims of this activity, with 70 percent of the case being women and girls who have been forced to work in sex industries. Human trafficking has become a rampant illegal activity in India due to weak policies at the border that allow recruiters to acquire purports and visas through fraud,  hence becoming an epidemic. India’s high population alsoexposes many vulnerable individuals, especially those in debt bondage, that are sold off by their employers to traffickers to pay back their debts. Therefore, this activity has resulted in mental and physical problems for the victim and the families who have lost their loved ones through trafficking. Those who are sexually exploited are at a high risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases like HIV since the protective gears are rarely used.

As stated earlier, this activity occurs in countries and natives from one place to another, and it is most likely to be experienced in vulnerable situations. The reason being, individuals in these situations, are always desperate and constantly looking for help. Trafficking, therefore, is driven by different factors: some people fall prey due to poverty, which is a major factor. In most cases, traffickers promise jobs in employment agencies outside one’s country, and this lures many innocent individuals who willingly go to other countries to have a better living. It is also fuelled by high demand for cheap labor in developed countries, especially in manufacturing firms, agriculture industries, and domestic labor.

Human trafficking is one of the lucrative criminal activities may be very difficult to fight. However, it can be reduced by employing different ways and policies.  It is both government andcitizens’ initiative to help curb this initiative via the following ways: collecting money to distribute to the vulnerable in the underdeveloped countries through the governmental and non-governmental organizations, volunteering, creating awareness of the signs of human trafficking,boycottcompanies the promote trafficking and many more. The government should also intensify rules that govern the protection of human rights. Therefore, quantitative analysis is appropriate in determining the rate of human trafficking and even project the world’s future state. Here, the data can be retrieved from India’s most affected country, where we assess the legal and illegal immigration and emigration of different age groups. This will help the respective country to propose the most appropriate ways to help curb this epidemic. Therefore, human trafficking is a criminal vice that needs urgent attention from both the government and the private institutions.
