Cognitive aging is the developmental area of psychology that focuses on the study of variations from adult life to young adult life. Memory, reasoning, and intelligence are among the developmental processes of interest, reflecting cognitive functioning. There is also an assumption that cognition is used to achieve dissimilar goals all through adulthood life. Still, the assumption is likely to be a person’s perception of self-past, present, future, and one’s modification to normal life. Both Horn’s and Schaie’s theory has a say on cognitive development for a very long time as human continue growing to adulthood life.

Both Horns and Schaie’s theories describe the main issues in the arena of cognitive development:

 Intelligencein humans is affected by aging (Fisher, 2017). Younger people are faster in processing sensory informationthan the older ones who are slower when it comes to the processing of the sensory information within the central nervous system.

Patterns of intellectual aging where the cognitively impaired development trajectories vary according to age. Impairment starts declining as the age goes up or humans become elderly. Diabetes, heart disease, stroke, low social capital, and physical impairment functions are likely to be the potential risk factors affecting the decline of cognitive function in late life.

Differential profiles linked to aging development in human’s in terms of various memory systems whereby it comes out that older people’s thinking ability declines as compared to that at a younger age such as prompt forgetting in the memory, a decline in problem-solving skills ability as they are not able to solve the problem appropriately as before at younger adults. In conclusion, cognitive aging is involved in the developmental process, which ranges from neurological to analyses of social levels through individuals. This will be a continuous foreseeable future in scholars’ fascination and those who will be inquisitive on how and the reason why cognitive variations occur all throughout adulthood life.
