The article under critique revolves around the issues of pedagogies of engagement based on the practices common in an engineering classroom. In this article, Smith, Sheppard, Johnson, and Johnson (2005) agree that the educators, policymakers, researchers, and all other stakeholders involved in crafting the engineering training curriculum are advocates of student involvement during learning. They note that based on the trend in the last two decades, engineering educators have taken upon themselves to ensure that students are always active and cooperative during learning. The engineering educators mostly use service-learning, learning communities, problem-based learning, inquiry learning, and other hybrid learning approaches with the sole goal of improving the knowledge and learning experience of the learner.
